Shrimps is another brand that i have been requested to explore for the summative brief. It is a fashion based label, mainly focusing of faux fur, outerwear and accessories. The brand was founded by Hannah Weiland in 2013 and has recently done extremely well in London Fashion Week.
The brands insights come specifically from modern art and a deep engagement in pattern and texture. This is particularly referenced on the website which projects interesting gifs (such as the one above) which corporate clashing patterns and different textures, combined with illustration to keep it interesting and unique. The founder of the brand Hannah Weiland studied a diploma in Surface retie design which is where her skills combine to create her brand.
Shrimps designs, as previously mentioned, focus mainly on faux fur and outerwear- this is because of her love of textures and fabrics. There is a particular emphasis on colours and textures which is why a lot of her faux fur items are bold and brightly coloured which are unique and personal to the brand.
The consumer is someone who has a love for fur, who are forward thinking and have taste for beautifully crafted pieces. The items are very high end, so the consumer would have expensive taste and be willing to invest on quality.
What i love about this brand is that they highlight the fact they sell faux fur and not real fur. This is something that is really important to me, because i am really against brands that use real fur and aren't ethical. Therefore to be this brand is telling a clear story and is truthful to its consumer.
The brand has also collaborated with Converse which shows that it is well established in the industry and willing to work with high end brands. Using fabrics ranging from a modern, deconstructed peach gingham to a bottle green fur, the shoes playfully experiment with pattern and texture. ‘The inspiration came from the themes of my S/S'17 collection, looking at texture, colour and a signature Shrimps faux-sheepskin stripe,’ she explains. ‘I would style the hi-tops with a calf-length dress, like my Gerald dress." I think its important when a brand collaborates to keep its style which is something that Hannah has done really well with the converse collab. You can tell that it is a collaborative with her brand due to her distinctive style.
