For our summative brief we have been asked to research 8 different brands as part of the contexts stage in our project. The ultimate goal of this is to finally pick a brand which we like and create a fragrance to go go along with that brand. I wanted to do a blog post on each so that i can roughly explore each, before i make my final decision.

The Vampires wife was founded by Suzie Cave and her friend/business partner Alex Adams, back in 2014. When first seeing the name of the brand, you may initially think of gothic clothing, vampires capes and even fangs.. however the brand is actually quite vintage- presenting a combination of laces, silks and a 50's style feel. The brand was developed when Suzie said that she couldn't find anything to wear that suited her style, she felt that designers were making clothes that were beautiful; she wanted to create clothes that were more about the female form and making women look beautiful, as opposed to just the clothes.

The brand has a lot of insights and analogies, from things such as Suzies love of Russian Ballet, the war, music and powerful women influencers. What i really love about the brand is that on the website they have a 'stuff' page, which they upload the things that inspire them- this helps to see where their inspiration has come from. The brand puts these influences into something that is delicate yet practical made to be modern and simple.

I think that this brand is very luxury because it crafts unique, elegant pieces which target a higher end consumer. Celebrities have been seen wearing The Vampires Wife on the red carpet, such as Dakota Johnson, Kiera knightly, Chloe Moretz and Daisy Lowe. The brand has quite a high price range, usually starting from £1,000 upwards- the pieces are usually evening wear and they have also started to sell charm bracelets in their newest collaboration with Annoushka.

What i really love about this brand is not just their brand analogies, but also how the brand is still going really strong even after their lives have been tinged by tragedy. I think that this shows great courage and makes the brand look powerful. In 2016, the brand was really pushed into the spotlight when Suzie and Nick Caves son Arthur, passed away after experimenting with LSD. Suzie said that the the brand really helped her to overcome her despair- before she got a call from daisy Lowe asking for her to create a dress to wear at an awards ceremony, she was considering packing in the brand all together. Suzie says she finds a joy in creating, The Vampires wife gave her something to live for, work is what saved her, which is what i find truly inspiring.
