This years Met Gala's theme was Heavenly Bodies: this theme explores fashions relation to the catholic church, featuring incredible designs from Coco Chanel, Balenciaga, Versace, Vera Wang, John Galliano and 40 pieces which were loaned from the Vatican itself.
The Met Gala is something that i look forward to every year because of the effort gone into the fantastic outfits and the oscar like ceremony of the fashion world. I always look forward to seeing the exclusive A-list celebrities, models and designers who all have to be approved to the prestigious event, by the Vogue editor in chief herself... Anna Wintour.
I absolutely loved the theme this year, despite the controversy behind it- i think most of the celebrities presented the looks in an elegant and true manner which reflects the theme in the highest way possible. I was really disappointed with some of the celebrities however, who seemed to go off on their own theme and didn't present catholic imagination in any way at all- for example, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner.
The Vatican had approved of the exhibit and Met gala theme and even lent the Met museum about 50 garments and accessories for the show. I found this information Bazzar who also said that "some Catholics thought the event appropriated their religion into a fashion statement. Some people called the theme sacrilegious and offensive to their faith". But Timothy Dolan said: "It’s because the Church and the Catholic imagination—the theme of this exhibit—are all about three things: truth, goodness and beauty. That’s why we’re into things such as art, culture, music, literature and, yes, even fashion.’’
Overall, my particular favourite of the night had to be Kim Kardashian who sported a beautiful gold, full length Versace dress, along with a fine cut of Lorraine Schwatz jewellery... which did not disappoint I respect that she followed the theme unlike her sisters who seemed to go by their own theme.
