After a seminar the other day, i was inspired by brands that adopt inspiration from History and break fashion boundaries in this day and age. The brand Palomo Spain is gender bending and despite the clothes being traditionally categorised from women, it is meant for anyone and is modelled by a majority of men. The designer said that "aesthetically and sexually, i never felt there should be clear distinctions between masculinity and feminity."
The brands designs are inspired by the 17th century and how men would dress often even more extravagantly than women did. The designs are actually group breaking, cutting edge and classic pieces in history.
What i particularly love about the brand is that in the age the designs appear as theatrical extremes, but 100's of years ago this was the normal way to dress (from a wealthier class). The way the designs are so flamboyant is incredible and shows how much fashion had changed and developed throughout the ages.
I think that men and women should be able to dress the way that they want to and this brand represents that in an excellent way. It is inspiring because they carry such a deep story of clothes being made for everyone and people shouldn't have to be judged for their outfits, because if they were made that way back in time, why should they change so dramatically for them not to be deemed acceptable in this lifetime. Their careful craftsmanship and design represents the passion that goes into clothing and that is what i find truly special about Palomo Spain.
