Going onto my next project at university, we will be focusing on fragrances- working on creating the branding and campaign for our own perfume. To kick start off the second semester i thought i would do a brief post of my favourite fragrance, Dolce and Gabbana, 3 L'Impératrice, and why it is attractive to me.
I have a strange story on how i came across this smell which was over 2 years ago at a music festival in Reading. We had been camping for a few days, the weather was rubbish, none of us had showered, everything kind of smelled- but we were LOVING life. It was in the evening and the main stage performances were over so we went back to our tents to freshen up for the after parties. I climbed into my friends tent after topping up my makeup and layering up with another jumper, when this amazing, fruity, watermelon like smell filled the air. Instantly i was drawn to it (especially because all i had smelt for the past few days was mud and sweat) . I covered myself in this sensational smell of pink cyclamen and i never turned back.
I like to think of this perfume as my signature smell, i want people to remember me by this smell! I have tried many other perfumes such as black opium, oud ispahan, alien, and many more- but i think because i associate this smell with that festival- i am instantly really drawn to it and wearing something else doesn't get across the same signature smell that i love to wear.
What i really love about this fragrance which actually came as quite a shock to me, that it is actually unisex. The top notes of this fragrance come across rather feminine, opening as a fruity watermelon, with a nice kiwi fruit impression intermingled with it. To make it more masculine the heart of the fragrance reminds me of the smell of rhubarb, which follows into a musky base. I think this makes it smell expensive and desirable, which is most likely why i am so attracted to the scent.
Following on from this fragrance, i think this would massively inspire me when creating my own scent for my groups project. I like the idea of a unisex fragrance which is more unexpected- leaning towards a lighter, fruity smell as the instant smell and then leading into a musky base that appeals to everyone.
One thing that i don't like about this fragrance is that i tend to need to use quite a lot for the smell to last, and even then it doesn't cling to me as well as i would have hoped for it to. I tend to sprits up with a body spray that i can carry in my bag which isn't ideal bu the best option.
