Threadless is an online brand which allows you to submit your own designs and bring them up to the market. All you need is drawing materials, a computer and internet connection. This company is amazing if you have lots of ideas because all you need to do is think of original designs and project all your thoughts onto paper.

Once you have created your idea you can upload it online and add the finishes touches via photoshop, illustrator or any other editing software. Submit your design to the treadless community and they can help you to execute your concept and make it better.

Now that you are happy and have a finished design, you can put your design on a t-shirt template. The threadless team will firstly approve the design, within a couple of days, before it goes off for scoring for just one week. The threadless community score your design on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being low and being the highest. Everyone can vote and pick what threadless makes, you can even ask your friends for help.

If you would like your design to get higher scores you should return the favour in the threadless community and rate other peoples designs as well. You will need to be nice, and if you have something to say- leave constructive criticism in the comments!

Your design will receive its final, overall score after 7 days. Threadless listens to the community's votes and picks their favourite designs for printing. If you are the lucky person to have one of your designs chosen, you will receive lots of money in return!

They print your design onto their t-shirts and ship them all around the world. Your design can also be plastered on other products, such as water bottles, iPhone cases, hats, etc.. which will lead you to even more cash!

I thought that this company was really interesting, after being told about it by a tutor at university. I desided to research more into it to see how good it was and what the story was behind the obvious steps i have written about above! I learnt that this brand uses a theory called the 'bubble up theory'. Usually the industry 'trickles down' products, which go from the market to the consumer. In this instance however, threadless allow the consumer to create their own designs and therefore 'bubble them up' to the consumer. This theory is going against tradition and is a bit more rebellious, which makes the brand really exciting and innovative.

Having explored this brand in depth and discussed with my group, we decided to use this as an insight towards our fragrance project. The bubble up theory may be something which we decide to carry forward and develop with our own brand.
