Today was extremely exciting because we were given the day in London to gather some primary research for our fragrance project. Since my home town isn't too far from London, i decided to meet my group there instead of getting the coach!
The purpose of todays trip is to work in our new teams for our fragrance project, to get as much information about the industry (as possible in one day). We were given a list of many places that might inspire our project and where we can talk to the experts to see their take on the industry and so that they can pass down their knowledge. My main focus out of the trip was to look for a gap in the market, so that i could find a space to create an innovative idea.
I visited some really cool places, some which i hadn't;t heard of before, such as Diptyque, Conran and Marni- which were all around the Marylebone area- despite these shops being really interesting and unique, nothing really jumped out to me (other than the incredible smells). I moved onto some of the places i had heard of, such as penhaligon's, Liberty and Le Labo; I also took some really good pictures on my camera which i will use as a main source of primary research and in my sketch book.
One of the other girls from my group, sent me over a transcript of a conversation she had with one of the workers in Aésop, so i thought i'd add it in as a bit of primary research:
Us: Are they uni sex then? So can they appeal to...
Aésop: Genderless, yeah...
Us: Oh okay, so is it usually more male or female who purchase?
Aésop: Usually its a pretty equal mixture of both.
This conversation lead us onto the idea of androgynous fragrances and we were also really inspired by the store 'Fiorucci', which is one of the places we visited in London.
Fiorucci was incredible, full of bright colours and loads of things to experience and look at. I really liked that as you walked around the store it really took you out of the hustle and bustle of London, took you away and made you zone out from social media! This was something that really inspired us as a group. We found a gap in the market for in store experiences, which is something that we thought would be great for our perfume project- as the inspiration behind.
Overall i had an amazing day in London and i thought i made the most out of my day, gathering some really interesting information and capturing some great pictures.
