Whilst in New York I thought it would be rude not to experience a few exhibitions involving fashion! Since I study a fashion course and my current project is on an upcoming trend, this museum was perfect to explore my the history trend story of ‘fragmented nautical’. The exhibitions basically includes 111 items, exploring the past, present and even the future of these clothing and accessories. The items ranged from a little black dress to Levi jeans and included one particular item which I can’t wait to talk about!

There was a really interesting look into the future on some items of clothing. One i found particularly exciting was 'Aquos'. Designer, Kerby Jean-Raymond is inspired by the future and in particular global warming. Raymond takes a deep look into the effects of global warming and how it is effecting rising sea levels. He is aware and keeps in mind that fashion has a major impact on the environment. I particularly liked his idea because it is extremely fitting with my own project and i have been exploring the effects of global warming. He anticipates that in the future many of the main fashion capitals could become flooded including New York, Los Angeles and even Hong Kong. With this in mind he has developed an idea of what fashion may be like with the cities under water and how clothes would need to evolve to this. He combines flotation devices and the wetsuit to relate a waterproof and breathable invention. "The 3D printed front enhances visibility in a submerged urban sprawl; the plastic inflatable tubes on the back make the garment buoyant". A very crazy idea indeed but one that i thought was extremely creative and interesting.
