The Royal Wedding

Being such a big event that it is, I thought it would be important to talk about the announcement of the royal wedding. This is a major headline that has taken over newspapers and news channels over the past month. Prince Harry and Meghan Markel are engaged, but not everyone is as pleased about it as others.

The couple are set to marry in 2018 and it is said to be the ‘wedding of the year’. Not that anyone really paid much attention to this, the first question on people’s minds were “do we get a day off work/school”. Unfortunately, that question was soon put to bed and the answer was a harsh no, due to Harry’s place in the line of succession.

My first view on the Royal wedding was that I didn’t actually really care. I was disappointed with TV show ‘this morning’ after another news story was cut off air due to the announcement of the royal wedding. Brian Willkie and his daughter Ellie were set to share their story on mental health issues and how their family saw their dad recover from depression and attempted suicide. I thought this was particularly inconsiderate and I would have personally been much more interested in a real life event as opposed to a wedding which is most likely a fad.

Daughter Ellie took to twitter to share amongst her followers the disappointment her and her father shared. The tweet went viral and subsequently this morning had to apologies, they then continued to say that they will be invited back on the show to tell their story.

Despite this, I explored deeper into Meghan Markel and her relationship with Prince Harry. News came out that Meghan was doing it for the money when a video of her surfaced from when she was a little girl. They video was on Meghan as a child saying how one day she wanted to be a princess. I don’t really see anything wrong with this as I think it was every child’s dream to be a princess, but other people thought differently.

Whilst in New York, I met a lawyer from LA- we spoke about the royal wedding and he joked about what I was going to wear (since I said I was from the UK). His opinions were very strong and he actually said he though Meghan was in it for connections to the royal family, he couldn’t see any reason why she would want to give up her successful career for a life of charity work.

All in all, I am happy for the couple and I do hope that Meghan is in it for the love, I do believe the couple seem happy together- but the real question is… is it all for show?
