The Pantone colour of 2018 has been officially unveiled and i am extremely intrigued into the story behind why this colour has been chosen! Initially my first thoughts on this colour was that it reflects a magical vibe with a sense of mystery. This colour, for me, conjures up thoughts of space, wizardry and spiritualism- which is what intrigued me so much into writing a blog post about it. I think these thoughts first sprang to mind because purple is a typical colour associated with witches, usually halloween costumes for witches feature purple and black- which is why these other thoughts occurred to me.
"Inventive and imaginative, Ultra violet lights the way to what is yet to come" - This is how Pantone described their colour of the year. They also said that the colour is a "dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, which communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.".
I liked the way that they have conveyed that the colour is much more than just a colour. This shade provides deeper interpretation and brands should also consider this more. I think that a lot of the reason behind this choice in colour is to do with peoples sexuality. In 2017 i feel we explored transgenders and the gay community a lot more in depth and people came to terms with choices and excepted one and other for who they are. The colour ultra violet energies community and inspires connections- which is my main reason for thinking that this could have inspired the colour into 2018.
Despite this, i believe this is a fantastic choice in colour and not only does it remind me of spiritualism, space and witches; It also reminds me of the film "Angus thongs and perfect snogging" and the song the Stiff Dylans perform
at the end! Haha (If you don't know, get to know!!).
