Sophia, the Robot

I am completely shocked by the recent news on the real life robot ‘Sophia’. She is an artificially intelligent robot who holds an incredible human likeness. Initially I was obviously shocked by Sophia and b the fact she can hold information and even make jokes. The robot can also make facial expressions to display her mood, 62 facial expressions in fact.
Most of the media seems to joke about Sophia, and Sophia is extremely funny in her self. In particularly a favorite moment of mine was when Chrissy Teigen threw shade about Sophia’s makeup on twitter. It which Sophia replied asking to meet up for makeup tips. I found it hilarious because Miss Teigen was drawn back by the situation, replying ‘AHHHHHH,’ ‘How can I make this up to you’. Luckily for Chrissy Sophia still wants to be friends.
All jokes aside, Sophia is considered very seriously. She is not programmed with any answers and in replace she uses a machine which helps her to learn, she can also see people and respond to their facial expressions. Sophia is the first robot in the world to become a citizen of the country and she has some pretty crazy ideas.
Sophia has also recently said that she wants to have a baby because family is a ‘really important thing’, even for robots. I think that Sophia is incredible and its amazing how she can think of ideas and respond to people’s questions. One thing that I am quick to judge on however, is that Sophia actually has more rights than any women in Saudi Arabia. Since she has citizenship in Saudi Arabia, it seems that she should be obliged to wear a headscarf and abaya. She also does not need to have a male companion, unlike other women from Saudi Arabia. Some may be against this, but considering Sophia doesn’t have a real life consciousness, I don’t really think it poses much of a problem.
What do you think of Sophia, are you taken a back? Please get in touch with me and let me know your opinions!
