Victoria Secret Fashion Show | Shanghai

One thing that almost every lingerie lover is talking about today is the Victoria Secret fashion show. The annual fashion show that brings the glitzy angels to the catwalk has come around once again. This year the show has taken place in Shanghai, which makes perfect sense considering the brand have a total of 26 stores there.

The most talked about section of the show was most definitely when Chinese angel Ming Xi fell over on the catwalk. The beautiful model took to the catwalk in a long flowing baby blue cape and stiletto boots. She also wore floral wings, which seemed to have weighed her down. Despite the model falling down, she still managed to look glamourous in the process. The other model walking behind her, Gizele Oliveira, helped her up and encouraged her on- a sisterly and ‘angel’ thing to do. This is a great example of how the models embrace each other and work together as a team.

I have one question in mind however, is the show becoming outdated? The Fashion show sunk to an all new low, only managing to engage around 5 million viewers- a 32% drop from the previous year.

I personally love the show, I think it encourages women to feel sexy and embrace what they look like. As women I think we should be encouraging girls of all shapes and sizes, but this is something that the brand lacks. The women on the catwalk all seem to have the same figure and it gives off the impression that the lingerie is only made for people of that body shape. Model, Sophia Jamora, posted an Instagram story on the day that the runway show aired, saying “Why don’t Victoria secret cast thick and curvy models instead”. She’s right, every other brand has had a shift in plus size clothing and plus sized models, so why has Victoria secret not done the same? Could this explain why the show has dropped so many viewers in comparison to last year?

Never the less I do still love the brand and I have a personal story which made me fall in love the brand even more. After my older sister had her first child she was upset with her figure and complained about how she didn’t feel sexy anymore (even though she was still absolutely gorgeous). That day we decided to go to shopping in Birmingham, I took her into Victoria Secret and we picked out lots of different lingerie to try on! To cut a long story short, the underwear boosted her confidence majorly and she left the store with a bag full of goodies to wear underneath the new clothes she had also brought that day. This story makes me so happy because it is an example of how the lingerie can make you feel, positive, sexy and glowing!
